On gender equality
此时此刻,当我写这个blog entry 时,我仍然惊魂未定。During a closing dinner for a yearly high level delegation, I was hijack by a very rowdy and mildly or seemingly drunk participant who kept dragging me to drink. I gave him face and drank the first few toast at the start. But gradually, he got bolder and even forcefully tried to pull me from the head table to his when I was engaged in a conversation with another. In the face of all these, nobody attempted to save me from the situation and given his high level position, the 2 Chinese participants seated next to me were even nudging me to drink with him when he approach the head table for yet another drink with me after the 'promised' last drink. By then, I was really irritated and didn't want to entertain him any further. The 2 beside me then kept tapping me on the shoulder and asked me to stand up, knowing jolly well that the person had gone overboard and was under alcohol influence. They wanted to save the dinner from any embarrassment and wanted to make their boss happy. Honestly, I was really disgusted. I was very reluctant but to prevent the situation from becoming ugly, I then stood up and told the head of delegation to witness that this is the final cup that I was going to drink with him and will not entertain this further.
After the dinner ended, I tried to find a time to slip away without catching their attention. Little did I know that he will call my handphone non stop with the help of his other delegates for drinks again. I must say I am glad and lucky that I am not staying at where they came from. With their money and connections, they could make life terrible for you in the lawless society if they wanted to and people will give in for fear of their livelihood. Only a system like sg's could give females dignity and right to speak up. Stop treating us as play objects, we have the free will to decide and not everyone have to abide to your will because u have $ and power. I must agree that absolute power has a high risk if absolute corruption.
Save the many females around the world who live under a flawed system with scarcely any protection. Provide these women with the rights to a safe workplace!
This also links me to another female related topic on Prostitution. Just because prostitution is a old trade and legal in many countries, it doesn't mean it's not against moral values. It is not a proper job that gives people dignity. Just thinking that it provide jobs and should be kept the way it is to provide employment for the poor, is a wrong way of thinking. The fact that male leaders kept thinking female could always resort to this trade to survive, prevent them from confronting the urgency of the issue that so many of the women are forced into this trade because of poverty, unequal opportunities and lack of education. Survival and living is different. If you have to greatly compromise your values just to survive, you are just a piece of skin without a soul. Stop thinking of women as commodity that can be bought and sold for profit or pleasure. Female are NOT the weaker sex so stop the doings that create the impression that we are so!
